The weather has tested the community's resilience this week, with every journey proving hazardous.
But the conditions have also brought out the best in people.
For example, Harrogate District Hospital was inundated with offers of help when it issued an appeal for 4x4 drivers to help staff get to work on Sunday.
A Harrogate nurse who benefited from the generosity wanted to thank those who stepped up.
Sarah Hughes found herself stuck on Sunday morning while driving to the hospital.
She said:
I had to abandon my car on Skipton Road by the hill. My car could not get any further through the snow.
I was prepared to walk the rest of the way, but a man named Mike offered to take me to the hospital in his 4x4. He hadn’t seen the plea; it was just a random act of kindness.
I’m really grateful for the generosity of strangers. Small acts of kindness like this have a massive ripple effect on the rest of the community.
After working for 12 hours, Sarah was offered a lift home by a man called Andy, who had seen the hospital’s plea.
Ms Hughes said:
After a long shift it made all the difference. It would have taken me an hour and a half to walk back otherwise. My feet certainly appreciated it!
Ms Hughes told the Stray Ferret her travel problems were resolved after Sunday, as she was able to get to work on her own for the rest of the week, despite the icy conditions.
