Do you want to hear about inspiring people in the area?

The Stray Ferret has launched a new Straycast series in collaboration with the charity Horticap that focusses on local people who are making a real difference in our community and further afield.

Tamsin O'Brien from the Stray Ferret and Phil Airey from Horticap delve into the story behind each person's motivation. The Straycasts are uplifting and, on occasions, moving.

The Straycasts feature:

The Jordan Legacy - Steve Philip from Harrogate who has worked tirelessly on suicide prevention after his son Jordan took his life. Phil's charity thejordanlegacy  has an aim of a zero suicide society. He tells his story of the day he lost his son and how it impacted him and his family.

Artizan – Liz Cluderay is the UK Director of Artizan which helps people with learning difficulties have more fulfilling lives through its café in Harrogate town centre. The Charity also works in South America. Liz talks of the joy of her work and how Artizan can transform lives.

Open Country - Open Country is a Harrogate based charity that works to make the countryside locally more accessible to people with physical and mental disabilities. Phil and Tamsin interview David Shaftoe the CEO and talk to Shelley Moore who is blind and is helped by the charity. The conversation focusses on the joy of the outdoors and the challenges it can present to people with disabilities.

The Cone Exchange – Run through the Bettys and Taylor Group, the Cone Exchange began as a small idea that developed to the extent that it now attracts coaches of crafters. It’s motto is all trash is treasure. Tamsin and Phil talk to Chris Powell who’s flash of inspiration led to something magical in Starbeck.

Tamsin O'Brien from the Stray Ferret said:

Phil had made podcasts for Horticap and we had the idea that we would make some Stray Ferret Straycasts that explore and celebrate the work of people who are making a difference.

We're good at writing up interviews here at the Stray Ferret but hearing people tell their own story in their own voice makes it far more personal.

Phil and I found the people we have talked to inspirational - I'd like to thank everyone who took part.

Please listen and give us some feedback if you'd like more of them.

Phil Airey from Horticap said it's been a great experience:

Working at Horticap is an absolute delight and we are a big part of Harrogate. We live in a beautiful part of the world and I get to meet so many fascinating people with amazing stories.

I met Tamsin and we both have a passion to give local people a voice.

I'm not a professional broadcaster but I love talking to people. So give it a listen.

We'll also be adding a fifth Straycast with the Knit and Natters from Ripon so watch out for that - we'll let you know when it's published.
