Alec Shelbrooke.

Alec Shelbrooke won the Wetherby and Easingwold constituency for the Conservatives.

Mr Shelbrooke took the newly created seat with a majority of 4,846.

The constituency includes areas of the Harrogate district including Boroughbridge, Spofforth and Follifoot.

Following the declaration, Mr Shelbrooke said he would continue to serve his constituents as he had done in the former Elmet and Rothwell constituency.

He said:

One thing is not going to change, I am going to represent Wetherby and Easingwold constituency in the same way I represented the Elmet and Rothwell constituency.

Labour’s Ben Pickles finished second in the contest with 15,751 votes. However, he did not make a speech following the declaration.

Turnout for the election was 70.56%.
