North Yorkshire Council has given a brief update on the A59 at Kex Gill, which closed suddenly this morning after yet another landslip.
The Stray Ferret reported on the closure this morning. You can read more here.
We asked the council for an update amid confusion about the extent of the damage to the road and the likely length of closure.
A council spokesperson said:
As of 4pm, we expect it to remain closed for the remainder of today; further inspection of the hillside to assess any risk of further landslip (will take place) in the morning.
The A59, which is the main road linking Harrogate and Skipton, is undergoing a £68.9 million road realignment scheme because of the history of landslips.
The Department for Transport is paying £56.1 million and the remaining £12.7 million is being spent by the council.
