Cllr Mike Schofield suggested inviting Trandev to face questions over its services.

A Harrogate councillor has called for the town’s bus company Transdev to appear before a committee to answer questions over its services.

Cllr Mike Schofield, an independent who represents Harlow and St George’s on North Yorkshire Council, raised the matter at a Harrogate and Knaresborough area constituency committee today (November 28).

Transdev operates Harrogate Bus Company services across the Harrogate district, which includes buses in Knaresborough, Ripon and Boroughbridge.

Cllr Schofield, who sits as an independent, said he had received complaints from residents over buses “not turning up”.

It has been a particular issue in his division during the roadworks on Cold Bath Road, which are due to end tomorrow (Friday, November 29).

He suggested that representatives from Transdev could come before the committee to answer questions over its performance.

Cllr Schofield said:

Would it be good idea to have Transdev in to ask them questions in regards to their service or lack of?

I’m sure everybody else’s email box should be like mine with complaints about buses not turning up, about their app not being kept up to date and just the lack of service overall.

I have written to them and our passenger transport team and because we do not have any funding with them, we have no rights. But I do feel like it would be in their interests and our residents’ interests if they came in and answered questions to us.

Liberal Democrat councillor Monika Slater, who represents Bilton Grange & New Park division, agreed with the suggestion.

Valley Gardens and Central Harrogate Conservative councillor, Sam Gibbs, suggested the committee could also invite Connexions buses to the meeting.

The Stray Ferret approached Transdev to ask if it would willing to be scrutinised by councillors as requested.

A spokesperson said:

We have no comment to make as we don’t know the specifics of the concerns he’s speaking about.
