It’s a life-changing few weeks for secondary school and sixth form pupils, and last Thursday marked results day for A-Level students across Harrogate and the district.
Throughout the day, the Stray Ferret celebrated the successes of schools in the district, highlighting the amazing achievements of students, and spotlighting those who have overcome adversity to ace their exams.
From the new to the old; one of the most significant stories from last week was the successful purchase of 60 acres of land for public use, as part of the Knaresborough Forest Park campaign, 250 years after it first moved to private ownership.
The news team were on the scene to capture every moment, and to speak to some of the organisers, volunteers and revellers at the official celebration.
We’ve been covering the ongoing saga of the Knaresborough post office since it was first announced that it would be relocated from the standalone unit at 49 High Street.
Tom Gordon, the Liberal Democrat MP for Harrogate and Knaresborough has now had his say on the proposed move, and we spoke to other community members involved, to provide a comprehensive report on everything that has happened to date, and what could happen next.
Two other ongoing stories had major updates last week; we covered when the Harrogate Convention Centre’s fate could be decided and were first to report on the progress of the proposed 53 home development at Knox Lane.
It was also a busy period for our Ripon reporter Tim - from the community and council response to the arson attack that burnt down the toilet block at Borrage Green Play Area to what the sighting of a rare bird species at Nosterfield Nature Reserve could mean for the environment and ecosystem, he ensured he reported across the city’s diverse mix of news.
Finally, at the weekend, we published our two-part series highlighting the state of provisions for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) in Harrogate and the district, focusing on two different families’ stories.
