Harrogate and District Community Action chief executive Frances Elliot is to step down afer 13 years with the organisation.

Ms Elliot, who spent eight years as a project manager at HADCA before becoming chief executive in 2019, said "the time now feels right for a change".

HADCA, which supports communities, charities and volunteers throughout Harrogate district, is now seeking a new leader for the role on a pro rata salary of up to £44,000.

Ms Elliot received an MBE in June 2021 for support to the local community during covid.

Working with the HADCA team, she collaborated with multiple other community organisations to provide support across the district.

In a statement, she said:

I am extremely proud of the HADCA team and all that we have achieved together, adapting to changing needs, incubating services and playing our part in supporting the local community in Harrogate and in Ripon, particularly during the pandemic, the recovery phase and beyond.

However, the time now feels right for a change: we have some really exciting new opportunities lined up to develop in 2025 and thanks to support from North Yorkshire Council, we have funding confirmed towards our core work.

We have also secured funding for Help out Harrogate, to promote and support local volunteering.

We have good reserves and a brilliant team in place, so now is a great time for someone new to come along and drive these initiatives forward.

Ms Elliot added she’ll be around at least until the end of April while the recruitment process takes place.

The chief executive job advert says the organisation is seeking a "visionary leader" to guide HADCA through to its next stage of growth.

Whoever takes over will have to deal with reduced funding from North Yorkshire Council.

Ms Elliot's departure will follow that of Karen Weaver, her predecessor as chief executive, who retired last year.
