The car park at Quarry Moor Nature Reserve in Ripon will remain closed until further notice as it awaits resurfacing works.
Councillors at Monday evening's full city council meeting agreed to seek quotes for the work after hearing it had been closed to protect public safety.
Council leader Andrew Williams said:
The city council has legal responsibility for the site and we couldn’t let the car park remain open in its current condition because of the risks posed by potholes.

The Alderman T. F. Spence Committee named in honour of the former Ripon councillor who donated the land to the city, is responsible for the daily running and operation of Quarry Moor - which includes an area designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest.
In November, the committee, chaired by Councillor Julie Ann Martin-Long, was successful in getting plans for the proposed demolition of the activities centre at the site put on hold, following calls to save and refurbish the building and bring it back into active use.
Potential future uses could see it as a hub for volunteer groups, a base for youth and adult outdoor education and as a venue for hire by local organisations.
