Art lovers will have one last chance to check out some of the creative talent that Yorkshire has to offer this weekend, for the concluding weekend of North Yorkshire Open Studios (NYOS).

Taking place on June 8-9, from 10am to 5pm, the popular event allows artists and makers to open their studios, meet, promote and sell their work directly to the public.

There's even an art trail taking place in Harrogate itself - here’s what you need to know ahead of the weekend.

How many artists will be taking part in North Yorkshire Open Studios?

This year it features a record number of 170 North Yorkshire artists that stretch from the coast to the Moors, Dales and beyond, to look inside their studios.

Now in its 17th year, it also welcomes 30 new artists who will be exhibiting for the first time.

Who’s the event for?

Organised by the artist-run collective, the not-for-profit showcase supports creatives including painters, sculptors, printmakers, jewellers, photographers and ceramicists, all of whom live and work in North Yorkshire and choose to open their studios to the public. Artist Garth Bayley says:

The open studio event is a chance to go ‘through the keyhole’ of an artist’s studio, appreciate the creative process, and meet and get to know the artist too.

It’s a really exciting opportunity to go on a road trip of discovery. You can unearth destinations, lesser-known beauty spots, and see the region through the eyes of its artists.

Whereabouts in North Yorkshire does it cover?

The art studio trail spans everywhere from coastal spots in Scarborough, through to scenic National Parks including the North York Moors and Yorkshire Dales, and the Nidderdale National Landscape, alongside picturesque villages and vibrant market towns. Garth says:

We encourage people who live in the region, and visitors, to go on an artistic and cultural magical tour.

Artists taking part will highlight attractions near their studios, such as castles, abbeys, beauty spots and visitor attractions to help visitors create itineraries for a full day or weekend getaway.

The Harrogate art trail

This year there are eight artists from Harrogate taking part in the event, with studios located an easy walking distance from the town centre.

Christopher John Kelly, Elena Putley, Steffi Callanghan, Helen Delaney neé Casey, Julia Poulton, Sandra Storey, Zoe Nicholson and Harrogate College are all participating, giving the public a chance to look at their work.

Visitors can plan their trip on the North Yorkshire Open Studios website, which features a map of studio locations, a search function for art medium and location, as well as profiles of the artists who are exhibiting.
