A well-known pub near Boroughbridge is reopening after a two-year closure this weekend.

The Crown Inn at Roecliffe is back under the ownership of Karl and Amanda Mainey, who previously owned the venue between 2007 and 2018.

The couple bought it back from the couple they sold it to this year.

Ms Mainey took to social media today to announce doors would open again on Saturday, adding “beer pumps are now flowing, and drinks are stocked”.

The pub will only serve drinks this Saturday, the post said, but added Sunday lunch will be on offer the following day.

The Crown Inn, which was also once a popular wedding venue, will not operate at full opening hours until the week commencing August 19, it adds.

But next week’s opening hours will be announced on Sunday, Ms Mainey said online.

The couple told the Stray Ferret in June they wanted to “love the pub back to life”.

As Roecliffe residents, the Mainey’s said at the time they have restored the pub "to its former glory", including new flooring and decorating.

It followed a report by The Mirror that claimed former lessee, Chris Hannon, faced bankruptcy after his previous company entered liquidation in 2020.

The pub was listed for sale with Christie & Co for £875,000 last June.

The Maineys, who also own The Tickled Trout in Bilton-in-Ainsty, previously told the Stray Ferret:

It was such a shame the pub closed, so we negotiated it down to a sensible price.

Expect open fires, flagstone floors, four proper ales and 40 wines. We'll also have a new kitchen with a new team.

I'd say the food is smart, modern British. There will be great pub classics, with sandwiches at lunchtime, pies, fish and chips etc.

We're big on seafood and local produce. Some goods will be foraged from local fields.

The Roecliffe pub will take on head chef from The Tickled Trout in Bilton-in-Ainsty, as well as the former general manager of the Bay Horse Inn at Goldsborough.

The Crown Inn at Roecliffe will be open from 12-10pm on Saturday, and 12-5pm on Sunday.
