Olympic triathlete gold medallist Alistair Brownlee has announced a major new triathlon event will be held in Ripon this year.

Alistair told his 158,000 followers on X, formerly Twitter, that the Brownlee Foundation was organising its first two events ever in 2024.

The inaugural Ripon Triathlon Festival, which will be held at Ripon Racecourse on July 13 and 14, will include a variety of events catering for different levels and interests. The foundation will also stage the Helvellyn Triathlon on September 1.

The foundation, founded by Alistair and brother Jonny, aims to inspire young children to enjoy sport and lead an active lifestyle. The decorated Yorkshire athletes hold five Olympic medals between them.

The Ripon festival will include sprint, standard and middle-distance events, with options to enter individually or as part of a relay team.

There will also be aquabike races, which include just the swimming and cycling sections of the competition, as well as junior and half-triathlon heats.

All profits will be directed to the Brownlee Foundation.

The website for the event says it will be organised in collaboration with NYP Tri Club , which owns the Ripon Triathlon, and NYP Tristars. It adds:

"Alongside the sporting events, participants can camp at the venue and enjoy food, drink and entertainment. A complete weekend endurance festival, with Yorkshire hospitality and in a glorious Yorkshire location."

You can register for a race now.
