Readers’ Letters is a free weekly column giving you the chance to have your say on issues affecting the Harrogate district. It is an opinion column and does not reflect the views of the Stray Ferret. Send your views to letters@thestrayferret.co.uk.

Since the construction of the recent exit from St James retail park, we have been campaigning for North Yorkshire County Council (NYCC) highways department to make the exit safer for motorists.

I understand that the new exit was intended to relieve the congestion caused by both traffic entering and exiting the car park, next to the fast-food outlet. However, due to the dangers of using this new exit the majority of motorists are still using the old exit route.

When coming up the slope onto Grimbald Crag Close, there is no clear line of sight of approaching traffic in both directions, due to two parking spaces to the left and right without double yellow lines. This road is used by heavy traffic servicing the industrial estate and when cars are using these spaces it makes this section a one-way road. In my latest communication with NYCC, they state that these parking spaces are for the use of local businesses.

Until NYCC remove these parking spaces, there is high possibility that there will be an incident, it’s not if, but when.
