A Ripon boy is set to climb Pen-Y-Ghent to raise money for Palestinian aid.

Henry Mawdsley, 5, will take on the 2,277ft climb (10.1km) this month to fundraise for Medical Aid for Palestinians. The charity advocates for Palestinian rights and provides urgent supplies to those in the West Bank, Gaza and Lebanon.

His mother, Eviana, today told the Stray Ferret Henry is “very aware” of the Israel-Hamas conflict.

His parents have "not exposed" him to the footage of the war, but have explained to him “why thousands of people are living in tents”, Eviana said.

She added:

"Henry is the great, great grandchild of Danish resistance members who helped get Jewish/disabled/black/LGBTQIA+ people and other minority groups to safety during the Nazi occupation of Denmark.
"He knows a lot about his family history and therefore wants to carry the flame on in charitable giving.
“After seeing a small peaceful protest for Palestine, he was inspired to do this walk, as he loves hiking and walking and can cover a whopping ten miles!"

Henry hopes to raise £500 for Medical Aid for Palestinians.

He will tackle on Pen-Y-Ghent on March 25, where he will be joined by his family and friends.

Eviana also said Henry hopes some readers may feel inspired to join him on his climb.
