A long-awaited £260,000 resurfacing scheme, designed to tackle Sharow's pothole-ridden roads, is due to begin later this week.
Signage is in place advising that the first phase of the work on New Road, will start on Thursday (February 6) and last for four days.
It will be followed by resurfacing works on Sharow Lane.
News that the project is imminent has been welcomed by roads campaigner James Thornborough, who lives in the village.
For several years, he has been in regular contact with North Yorkshire Council's highways team about the potholes and the dangers of damage and injury they pose for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians.
The work will start on New Road.
Mr Thornborough told the Stray Ferret:
At time I thought that the resurfacing works might never happen, particularly after last year's general election, when I was concerned that this could impact on planned spending for local and regional capital projects, but I'm pleased to say that this was not the case.
