Four Harrogate women are set to receive prestigious accolades after being named in the King’s Birthday Honours.
The list, which features 20 people from York and North Yorkshire, recognises the work of citizens across the UK.
Those representing Harrogate have been acknowledged for contributions to charity, business and trade, and social care.
Elizabeth Bramall, a philanthropist and co-founder of The Liz and Terry Bramall Foundation, will become a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) for her service to charity.
Lesley Margaret Wild, who is the former chair of Bettys and Taylors, will also be awarded a CBE for her contribution to business and trade.
Elizabeth Mary Whyte is the covid lead at HC-One – a UK-wide residential care provider. She is set to become a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for her work in the social sector.
Josephine Carol Finnegan, who has been an active fundraiser for end-of-life charity Marie Curie, will also become an MBE. Ms Finnegan is being recognised for her charitable fundraising and contributions to the Harrogate community.
York and North Yorkshire’s Lord Lieutenant, Jo Ropner, who is the King’s representative for the county, said the list “rightly recognises” the efforts of those who have made a “significant contribution to society”.
She added:
Those who have been honoured in North Yorkshire come from a diverse range of roles that gives an indication of how varied life is in the county.
However, they all share an immense dedication in their chosen fields, and they should all be rightly proud to be included in the King’s Birthday Honours.
