Plans to open an Edinburgh Woollen Mill site in Ripon have been submitted.
The company, which already has sites in Thirsk, York, Northallerton and Otley, sells clothing for men and women, as well as homeware and accessories.
Listed building consent plans to display two signs at the former Halifax Building Society site were uploaded on to North Yorkshire Council's website yesterday (September 3).
The Market Place building is grade-two listed building, meaning it is of special architectural and historic interest, and permission is required for any proposed work that may affect its character.
According to a design, access and heritage statement sent to the council, the signs have been designed to be in keeping with the property, adjacent properties and the general character of the surrounding area.
It also says:
The fact that the signage will be non-illuminated will ensure that there is not any light pollution.
It is therefore considered that the display of new signage on the property will not cause any loss, decay or detrimentally affect the subject property or any heritage assets in the vicinity.

Edinburgh Woollen Mill also hopes to be granted advertisement consent for the two signs.
The company seeks approval to display a “fascia” sign, meaning it will be at the front of the shop, and one projecting sign.
Edinburgh Woollen Mill formerly occupied a site in Ripon Market Place, but it closed in 2020 after Edinburgh Woollen Mill Group filed a notice of intent to appoint administrators at the time.
The Times last year reported the group, along with subsidaries such as Peacocks, was bought back by an anonymous international investment consortium, backed by Steve Simpson, chief operating officer of Edinburgh Woollen Mill.
North Yorkshire Council will deliberate on both applications at a later date.
The Stray Ferret has contacted Edinburgh Woollen Mill for comment.
