These terms and conditions apply between you, the subscriber of this website and app (including any sub-domains, unless expressly excluded by their own terms and conditions), and The Stray Ferret, the owner and operator of this website.

Please read these terms and conditions carefully, as they affect your legal rights. Your agreement to comply with and be bound by these terms and conditions is deemed to occur upon subscription. 

In these terms and conditions, ‘user or users’ means subscribers and any third party that accesses the website and is not either (i) employed by The Stray Ferret and acting in the course of their employment or (ii) engaged as a consultant or otherwise providing services to The Stray Ferret and accessing the website in connection with the provision of such services.

By using the website and agreeing to these terms and conditions, you represent and warrant that you are at least 18 years of age.

Cancellations and refunds:

All subscriptions will renew automatically, unless cancelled. A monthly subscription purchase will automatically renew each month, from the date purchased. The yearly package, this will also be renewed from the date purchased.

All subscriptions can be cancelled at any point in time. The cancellation will be activated when the paid for subscription period has ended. The subscriber cannot receive a refund for any part of the period that has been paid for before the due date for cancellation.

These terms and conditions together with the Data & Privacy Policy and the Participation Policy contain the whole agreement between the parties relating to its subject matter and supersede all prior discussions, arrangements or agreements that might have taken place in relation to the terms and conditions.

These terms and conditions will be governed by and interpreted according to English law. All disputes arising under these terms and conditions will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English courts.

PARTICIPATION AND COMMENTS TERMS 

These terms outline when subscribers engage in discussion about articles published on The Stray Ferret on the Stray Ferret website and app in the Comments section.

As journalists we believe in freedom of speech and expression. We hope you enjoy participating in discussions about the issues we report on. We encourage lively debate and discussion.

The aim of these Terms is to make the Stray Ferret a place of safe, public debate and discussion, where subscribers feel able to actively engage on a regular basis. To achieve this aim, we expect a standard of behaviour from those engaged in discussion. This document outlines those standards. We will moderate or hide comments that breach these guidelines. We reserve the right to permanently remove a person from commenting if they persistently breach these guidelines:

1. Subscribers must use their real names to post comments – we accept abbreviated first names (i.e Beth for Elizabeth) but not surnames.

2. Words have impact. Do not use vocabulary that could be interpreted as abusive or offensive to a person or group. We reserve the right to make judgements on whether language, and the context within which it is used, could be interpreted by others.

3. Respect others, not everyone will share your views. All comments must be legal as defined under current UK laws. We reserve the right to remove comments that we believe could be breaching those laws. Personal attacks on others will be removed.

4. We are journalists and open to reasonable views on our work. However personal attacks on Stray Ferret journalists or repeated attacks on our work will not be tolerated. If you have a complaint about our work contact us on complaints@thestrayferret.co.uk . We are regulated by IMPRESS and adhere to its Code of Conduct which can be found here. Should you be unhappy with our response you can take your complaint to our regulator where it will be externally examined and ruled upon.

5. We will moderate comments but would be grateful if subscribers tell us of any that they feel breach these guidelines.

6. Be aware that on some stories we will not allow comments. These articles will either be of a sensitive nature or may hold significant legal risks to us as publisher.

We reserve the right to hide comments or take them down. 

In extreme cases, where there is evidence of continual abuse of these guidelines, we reserve the right to cancel a person’s subscription without a refund.
