Here are the answers to this week's Sunday Picture Quiz. How well did you do?

1. Sharow Cross, Sharow

This stone stump is all that is left of the Sharow Cross, which itself is the only relic of eight crosses erected on the roads approaching Ripon by King Athelstan in 937.

Each cross was placed one mile away from the cathedral, and the area inside them was designated the Sanctuary of Ripon, where fugitives could expect protection.

The sanctuary was known as the Liberty of St Wilfrid and was maintained by the church authoroities. That arrangement lasted until 1540, when the authorities maintaining law and order became secular.

2. Scar House reservoir

Scar House reservoir lies near the very top of Nidderdale. Only Angram reservoir lies above it, and the source of the River Nidd is just over two miles away.

Built over 15 years from 1921, it was the last reservoir to be constructed in Nidderdale. Along with Angram, it supplies water to the Bradford area via the underground Nidd Aqueduct.

3. Memorial to the Battle of Marston Moor

The largest battle ever fought on British soil took place just a mile east of Tockwith.

Fought over about two hours on the evening of July 2, 1644, the Battle of Marston Moor pitted 17,500 Royalists against 24,500 Parliamentarians and Scottish Covenanters and was one of the pivotal conflicts of the English Civil War.

The Royalists under Prince Rupert of the Rhine lost the battle and with it, control of the North.

4. The Old Magnesia Well Pump Room, Harrogate

This well house was built in 1858 in Bogs Field, a soggy patch of ground now better known as the Valley Gardens.

The pump room was frequented by visitors taking the waters for a wide range of health complaints.

As you can see from the picture, a lot has changed over the last 165 years. Following the decline of the spa industry, the pump room was closed and fell into disrepair.

It was restored in 2015 and the following year the building and surrounding gardens won a Platinum award in Yorkshire in Bloom.
