Here are the answers to this week's Sunday Picture Quiz. How well did you do?

1. The White Cottage, Harrogate.

This little grade II listed pavilion was built around 1822 and was originally the ticket office for the Crown Baths, later called the Montpellier Baths, which were built around a strong sulphur well. The whole property was bought in 1888 by Harrogate Corporation, which then built the Royal Baths.

The original Chinese-style pump room for Montpellier Baths was demolished in 1954 to make way for a car park, leaving this octagonal building stranded at the bottom end of the Ginnel. It is now ladieswear shop Oaks.

2. How Stean Gorge.

This dramatic limestone gorge stretches for about a kilometre along How Stean Beck, near Lofthouse, at the top end of Nidderdale.

Privately owned, it is run as a tourist attraction and features a via ferrata, scenic trails, lodges with hot tubs and a glass-floored café with stunning views.

The gorge is part of the Upper Nidderdale Site of Special Scientific Interest, and visitors can enjoy activities such as gorge walking, caving, and abseiling.

3. Gallons Steps.

Gallons Steps in Knaresborough lead from Kirkgate, near the railway station, down to Waterside. Accounts vary as to the origin of this name, but it appears likely that they were named after John Gallon, who owned the flax mill below.

The old-fashioned lamps may have been first installed when the town was lit by gas in 1824.

4. Ripon Cathedral crypt.

The crypt below Ripon Cathedral is the oldest surviving cathedral structure in England, and is all that remains of the orginal church built here by St Wilfrid in 672 AD.

Yorkshire was part of the Kingdom of Northumbria at the time – England hadn't been 'invented' yet – and the Vikings had yet to invade.

Christianity was also relatively new to this part of the world – King Edwin had only converted to Christianity in 607 – so it's highly likely that some of the first visitors to this crypt were born into families that still believed in the old gods.
