Queues of more than an hour have been reported once again this week due to temporary traffic lights on the edge of Knaresborough.
Three-way lights have been in place to allow Yorkshire Water to carry out work on the A59 near the junction with the A658, near Goldsborough.
The roadworks began affecting the busy commuter route at the beginning of October and have been regularly causing long tailbacks.
And while there has been some relief, with the lights being turned off at different periods throughout the day, it has inevitably caused traffic chaos.
This week drivers have reported queues all the way back to junction 47 of the A1(M) and beyond.
It has also had a major impact on pupils and teachers getting to and from Goldsborough CE Primary School.
With the roadworks due to last until November 27, many people have expressed frustration on social media.
@northyorkscc Could you ask your Highways Department what the point of the temporary traffic lights are at the Goldsborough/Knaresborough A59 roundabout please? The traffic is currently backed up to the A1 at Allerton Park yet there are no roadworks on the A59!!

One woman wrote on a Facebook group:
“Not helpful when it’s a guessing game every morning to see if they are on or not going to work in York daily.”
Another added:
“50 minutes it’s just taken me to get from Boroughbridge to King James School!”
The Stray Ferret contacted Yorkshire Water for comment but has not had a response.

Update: Main Harrogate road at North Rigton reopens following major incident
Rail and road travel has been disrupted this afternoon between Leeds and Harrogate.
Police say one lane of the A658 at North Rigton has now reopened, however officers remain at the scene.
Traffic was diverted through North Rigton when the incident happened earlier today.

Officers advised motorists to use the A659/A61 or the B6161 as an alternative while emergency services attended.
Meanwhile, Northern Rail tweeted at 1pm that all train services between Harrogate and Leeds have been cancelled or delayed.
A statement on their website said:
Man suffers serious injuries after Harrogate car crash“Due to the emergency services dealing with an incident between Harrogate and Leeds all lines are blocked.
“Trains running through these stations will be cancelled or delayed by up to 60 minutes. Disruption is expected until 7.30pm.”
A man in his 60s suffered series injuries after a crash at Buttersyke roundabout at Pannal in Harrogate yesterday.
Emergency services were called at 7.20am after two cars, a blue Seat Ibiza and a black Volkswagen Golf, crashed near to the A658 roundabout and the A61.
The incident caused long delays at rush hour yesterday.
North Yorkshire Police said a man from Leeds in his sixties, who was driving the Seat Ibiza, suffered serious injuries and was taken to Leeds General Infirmary. He remains in a serious but stable condition.
The passenger of the Ibiza was unharmed and the driver and passenger of the Volkswagen, a couple from Harrogate, sustained minor injuries

Officers are now appealing to anyone who may have information or dashcam footage of the crash.
A police statement added:
Traffic and Travel Alert: Delays of 20 minutes on A658 from North Rigton following an accident past Buttersyke Bar roundabout on John Metcalf Way towards Knaresborough“Officers are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident or who may have dashcam footage of either the collision itself, or either vehicle prior to the incident.
“Anyone with information which would assist the investigation is asked to dial 101, select option 2 ask to speak to Traffic Constable Steve Wright. Alternatively you can email steve.wright1@northyorkshire.police.uk – please quote reference 12220023352.”
An accident on A658, John Metcalf Way heading towards Knaresborough, is causing queues as far back as North Rigton.
Traffic moving around the Buttersyke Bar roundabout is slow due to the accident:
- Harrogate Road heading from North Rigton to Buttersyke Bar roundabout – 18-minute delay
- John Metcalf Way passed the roundabout to Knaresborough – seven-minute delay
- A61 for Harrogate – nine-minute delay
