Drone image shows progress on Harrogate Tesco

A drone photograph has given an indication of how the new Tesco supermarket in Harrogate is shaping up.

Drone photographer Colin Corker captured the image over the New Park area of the town.

It shows work on the access road off Skipton Road is well underway.

The supermarket’s footprint is also visible on land to the back of Electric Avenue, which also connects to Skipton Road.

The former gasworks site at the junction of Skipton Road and Ripon Road is to the east.

To the north is Oak Beck Retail Park, where Aldi has a store.

Tesco received planning permission in February last year to build a store, petrol station and a 209-space car park on the site of the former gas works at the junction of Skipton Road and King’s Road.

Drone captures scale of Ripon field fire

The scale of this week’s field fire near Ripon is captured in this drone image sent to the Stray Ferret.

Harrogate district drone photographer Paul Smith took the image on Tuesday, the day after the blaze occurred at Hutton Bank, Sharow.

It was one of two crop fires in the district that day. At one point the flames came close to the main A61 road.

Ripon and Harrogate fire crews were first at the scene and requested a further four appliances due to the 300-metre fire front.

Firefighters worked with the farmer to extinguish the blaze, in which nobody was hurt.

Knaresborough viaduct — best view in Harrogate district?

Knaresborough viaduct is one of the most photographed places in the Harrogate district.

The viaduct, which crosses the River Nidd, has stood for 170 years and is a magnet for photographers.

But it is less commonly captured from the sky, as Darren Leeming achieved with this photograph when he flew a drone over the site this week.

St John the Baptist church can also be seen.

Mr Leeming, from Starbeck, also took this drone photo of the Stray from Wetherby Road.
