A man was taken to hospital via air ambulance today after the floor collapsed at his home near Harrogate.
The man, who has not been named, suffered serious injuries in the fall at West End, Blubberhouses.
Firefighters from Harrogate and Skipton and an incident support unit from Ripon responded to a request for help at 11am.
North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service‘s incident log said the man had fallen from the first floor to the ground floor due to the floor collapsing. It added:
“Crews created a safe working space to allow paramedics to access the casualty in order to assess his injuries prior to moving him.
“The male casualty was transported to hospital via air ambulance with serious injuries. Crews completed a handover with the occupant of the property and gave advice.”

Van driver taken to hospital after major crash at Allerton Park
A van driver was taken to hospital after a serious collision with a lorry on the A1(M) at Allerton Park last night.
The crash happened at junction 47 just before 6pm and led to three-mile tailbacks and lengthy delays.
Firefighters from Knaresborough, Harrogate, Ripon and Tadcaster were summoned to help.
According to North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service’s incident log, “a van had impacted the trailer of a HGV and the driver was trapped by the dashboard”.
It added:
“On arrival, crews used cutting equipment, spreaders, rams and a turfer to free the male driver of the van.
“The driver was transported to hospital by road ambulance with a suspected broken femur.”
North Yorkshire Police has not released any information about the incident.

Firefighters rescue man retrieving his shoe in Knaresborough
Knaresborough firefighters dealt with an unusual call-out last night when a man ran into problems retrieving his shoe.
The man climbed on to the roof of Knaresborough Community Centre on Stockwell Avenue in pursuit of his footwear.
It is not known how the shoe got there but the person then required help getting down.
North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service’s incident log said firefighters were summoned at 8.15pm last night. It added:
“Crews from Knaresborough assisted a young male down from the roof of the community centre after trying to retrieve his shoe.
“A triple extension ladder was used.”
Further details about the man, and what happened to his shoe, have not been revealed.

Car catches fire in Harrogate district pub car park
Firefighters using breathing equipment extinguished a car fire in a Harrogate district pub car park this afternoon.
On-call firefighters from Acomb were mobilised at 12.49pm this afternoon to the Alice Hawthorn Inn at Nun Monkton.
North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service’s incident log said a VW Golf was “well alight” on arrival. It added::
“Crews extinguished the fire and dampened down surrounding area using one hose reel jet and one breathing apparatus.
“Crews gave advice to the owner of the vehicle. The cause of the fire is believed to be due to an electrical fault.”

Smoke inhalation killed woman in Harrogate house fire, inquest hears
A woman who lost her life in a Harrogate house fire died because of carbon monoxide poisoning due to smoke inhalation, an inquest has heard.
Jayne Addyman, 54, died on January 7 last year at her home on Craven Street, which is close to King’s Road.
The inquest also heard alcohol intoxication was found to be a significant factor contributing to her death.
John Broadbridge, assistant coroner for North Yorkshire and York, concluded Ms Addyman died because of an accident.
The inquest was held on January 20 in Northallerton and Mr Broadbridge confirmed the details today to the Stray Ferret.
Firefighters from Harrogate and Knaresborough were called to Craven Street at 6.20am on Friday, January 7 last year.
Paramedics performed CPR but Ms Addyman was certified dead at the scene.

Chemical causes stink in Harrogate street
Firefighters were called to investigate a foul smell on a Harrogate street last night.
Crews from Harrogate were called to Robert Street at 9.50pm last night following reports of a chemical smell in a property.
North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service’s incident log said:
“This was found to be possibly paint thinner that had been poured into the drains.
“The smell was affecting more than one property on the street.
“Crews gave advice and the Environment Agency was informed.”

Person airlifted to hospital after serious crash near Harrogate
A person has been airlifted to hospital after a serious crash on the A59 Skipton Road near Harrogate this morning.
Police and firefighters have been at the scene along with paramedics following a two-vehicle collision between The Nelson Inn and the farm shop crossroads.
The incident caused long tailbacks to New Park roundabout in Harrogate, with police diverting traffic onto Otley Road towards Penny Pot Lane and Beckwithshaw.
Harrogate Fire Station posted on social media:
“This morning, Harrogate crew attended a two-vehicle road traffic collision on the A59. One transported to Leeds hospital via air ambulance.”

Harrogate firefighters release images of Blubberhouses collision
Harrogate Fire Station has released images of this week’s crash on the A59 at Blubberhouses that left a person hospitalised with head injuries.
An air ambulance crew and multiple police vehicles also attended the two-vehicle collision shortly after 3pm on Tuesday.
Firefighters had to remove the door of a Peugeot to release a person who was trapped. The person was then taken to hospital by paramedics.

Harrogate Fire Station said in a statement:
“This week marks the start of our road safety campaign so with that in mind please check your vehicle is ready for the cold, slippery, dark roads and please drive very carefully.”

A Harrogate town centre property that was devastated by fire in 2019 has undergone its latest transformation, to residential accommodation.
Number 28 Beulah Street, in Harrogate, was the epicentre of a blaze four summers ago that ripped through shops and took eight crews of firefighters hours to put out.
Now, retrospective planning permission has been submitted to Harrogate Borough Council to change the use of the first and second floors from a sandwich shop to a single dwelling.
The ground floor is occupied by a café, Coffee 28, and is not included in the application.
The application was validated on December 14, 2022, and is awaiting a decision by planning officers.

Firefighters rescue horse after collision in Killinghall
Firefighters came to the rescue when a horsebox left the road in Killinghall today.
Crews from Harrogate and Ripon were summoned to the village at 12.07pm after a 7.5 tonne horse box left the road following a single vehicle collision.
North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service’s incident log said:
“Crews stabilised the vehicle to allow the owner to remove the horse from the rear of the vehicle. Incident then left with police.
“Crews used a tirfor winch and stabfast stabilisation equipment.”
Five minutes after the Killinghall call, Harrogate firefighters attended flooding in the basement of a house in Beckwithshaw.
The incident log said:
“Crews pumped water from basement and gave advice to owner. A light portable pump and hard suction were used at this incident.”
The incidents were part of a busy day shift for the Harrogate crew, which at 8am dealt with a reports of a diesel leak on a road in North Rigton.
Firefighters carried out an investigation and requested a highways gully-sucker to unblock a surface water drain.
