Harrogate-based business Play Outdoors has opened a pop-up shop in Victoria Shopping Centre. The store will be open for 12 weeks and sells paddling pools, water slides and outdoor games, as well as their signature inflatable spas.
The inflatable hot tubs have proved extremely popular among shoppers on the online site, and can be delivered and installed for free in any HG postcode.
Owner Mark said:
“During the lockdown these became a must-have item and their popularity as a must-have garden accessory has continued to soar.”
The Victoria Shopping Centre has seen a series of successful pop-up shops in the past year. The most recent venture was a digital museum experience, created by Harrogate Business Improvement District.

How Stean Gorge set to build luxury cabins for groups and families
How Stean Gorge is set to build 10 holiday cabins to entice more groups and families.
Currently the gorge, which has been a visitor attraction for more than 100 years, can only accomodate people prepared to camp.
Work is due to start in January 2022 on the first phase of the plan with construction set for completion in April 2022.
The first phase includes six of the cabins and a manager’s cabin.
The second phase can only start when Harrogate Borough Council is satisfied that trees planted as part of landscaping are mature enough not to be affected by more building works.

It means that the remaining four cabins could be a few years away.
The cabins vary in size. The rustic lodges can sleep up to 10 people but there are also chalets with room for six or four people.
All of them will be built in a log cabin style on stilts with a covered veranda and a log burner inside. The centre is also looking at sourcing hot tubs for the cabins.

Tony Liddy, the head of outdoor education and estates manager, told the Stray Ferret:
“We got a lot of stag dos and hen dos as well as families at How Stean Gorge. Unfortunately for a while now the closest group accomodation has been in Harrogate.
“We are keeping the campsite but that is not always for everyone. So these cabins are going to be a big step forward for the site. It’s very exciting.”
How Stean Gorge is also planning to bring back its Vista Bistro experience where people can dine in a restaurant sat over the drop. Currently it has two dates in the calendar, March 19 and April 2.
Hot tub industry bubbles up as lockdown easesThe hot tub industry expects to see another boom as the national stay-at-home order is lifted, and firms in Harrogate are already getting booked up.
As of March 29, the rule of six was reintroduced, allowing two households or six people from different households to meet outdoors.
Since people have been allowed to share their gardens with friends and family once more, hot tubs have been in huge demand.

Hot tub hiring businesses have become a big part of garden entertainment.
Bubble & Chic Hot Tub Hire in Harrogate was only established last month after owner Janie Carr decided to change career due to the pandemic.
Since its first booking on March 25, inquiries have not stopped. Ms Carr said:
“I posted an advertisement on a Facebook group on Thursday and by Friday I was inundated with bookings for the next four months. I even have full bookings for August bank holiday already.”

However, starting a new business during the grip of a pandemic is not without its challenges. She added:
“Lockdown has massively impacted the garden entertainment industry as I have been unable to get stock to hire out. A particular gazebo I use to put over the hot tub has been out of stock for months and others seem to be out of stock or have long delivery times.”
Harrogate Hot Tubs has encountered the same issue, with products to clean the hot tubs increasing in price. But this hasn’t stopped the Jacuzzi boom.
Paul Underwood, owner of the business, said:
“We had around four bookings in January 2020, this January we had over 100. Lockdown has definitely increased business for us, almost six-fold.
“We’ve had to turn down over 100 bookings since January as we’re fully booked, but we are expecting to see a further increase of bookings in summer with people maybe not wanting to go on holiday.”
