Two arrests after bogus police seize boy’s scooter in Bilton

Police have made two arrests after reports of bogus police officers seizing a boy’s electric scooter in Bilton.

North Yorkshire Police issued a statement last night saying it was investigating a “disturbing incident” which happened at 7.20pm on Saturday (March 18).

It involved the suspects mounting the pavement in an unmarked car before seizing the scooter from the teenager.

Police said patrols in the area had “been stepped while the investigation continues”.

In an update this afternoon, the force said it had arrested two suspects in connection with the incident.

It said in a statement:

“We are still urging people to come forward if you can help the current investigation, including relevant dash-cam, doorbell or CCTV footage.

“We’d also would like to speak to anyone who has experienced anything of a similar nature.”

Police seek hit and run driver after scooter rider hurt in Harrogate

Police are appealing for information after a crash in Harrogate in which a vehicle failed to stop.

North Yorkshire Police said this morning a black Lambretta scooter and a red 4×4 style vehicle were involved in a crash between 9.45am and 10am on on Saturday.

It occurred on Skipton Road near the Empress roundabout.

A police statement said:

“The red vehicle failed to stop at the scene and continued towards the Empress roundabout.

“The rider of the scooter suffered injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.”

It urged witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage or information to come forward.

700 scooters converge on Knaresborough

More than 700 scooters converged at Conyngham Hall in Knaresborough yesterday for a pre-season ride-out to York.

The event, organised by Yorkshire Scooter Alliance, saw the riders depart for York at 1pm.

Scooters travelled up the high street and on to York Rugby Club where there was music and trade stands.

Gemma Hart, one of the scooterists taking part, said:

“It was a well organised event that gave the scootering community chance to meet prior to the start of rally / ride-out season.

“A lot of members of the public came to look around the scooters and watch them ride out.”
