Learn to Square Dance with White Rose Squares! – Weekly Beginners’ Class Starts Sunday 18 January 2026

Square dancing is a great way to keep your mind and body fit! And it’s exercise while having fun!

White Rose Squares weekly Beginners’ Class starts Sunday 18 January 2026, 7.30pm to 10pm at Pannal Village Hall. First week free, then £4.50 a week. Wear comfortable clothing and shoes and bring a refillable bottle of water. Hall users have free parking when attending events at Pannal Village Hall. Park in main Car park opposite. (You must put your registration number into the unit inside Pannal Hall to avoid a parking fine).

American Square Dancing has a group of 8 people dancing together, working as a team. As you learn moves, not whole dances it is not repetitive. Every dance is different and made up from the moves you have learned. Each “tip” first has a Patter Call, where our experienced Callers call the moves to all sorts of background music – pop, rock, and traditional. The second part of a tip is a Singing Call where the Caller sings a song, inserting the moves you’ve learned into it. You listen out for each move while you are dancing and do it (you’ve learned it after all!). The Caller will move the dancers around during the dance, and you will all (hopefully!!) end up where you started. Very clever! Sounds interesting ? Come and give it a go – it’s great fun.. You need to be reasonably active and you don’t need a partner. Our experienced club members act as “Angels” alongside you, to help you along. Come regularly to be a proficient dancer.

White Rose Squares is a member of the British Association of American Square Dance Clubs, and our Callers, generally members of Square Dance Callers Club of Great Britain, teach the Callerlab (USA) approved teaching programs. When you learn to Square Dance you can visit any Square Dance club worldwide and the Calls are always in English.
