Madhouse Orchestra Performs Bartók and Walton

The Madhouse Orchestra is back and performing this Saturday, 3rd October at the Wesley Centre in Harrogate.

Madhouse is once again pushing the limits of what a small ensemble can do – this time with Bartók’s “The Miraculous Mandarin” and William Walton’s “Façade Entertainments”, promising an evening of everything from modern ballet to jazz to tango – with a touch of madness!

To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the premiere of Bela Bartók’s iconic ballet, Madhouse are performing Miraculous Mandarin in a version repackaged into a unique chamber-symphonic version for 9 musicians. This version redefines the capabilities of chamber orchestra playing, creating an immersive performance that exposes the music’s soul to the listener.

This is counterbalanced by the whimsical, eccentric and often nonsensical phenomenon that is William Walton’s Façade Entertainments. Featuring all styles of music from Jazz, Tango and Yodelling; this performance will be conducted and narrated simultaneously by Madhouse Orchestra Artistic Director, Fergus McAlpine.
