Could changing rooms on the Stray be brought back to life?
Councillors are to discuss bringing disused changing rooms on the Stray in Harrogate back to life.
The brick changing rooms, for people playing sports on the Stray, are last believed to have been used eight years ago.
Harrogate Town Council will next week discuss whether to conduct a feasibility study on reviving the building so it can be used for the same purpose again.
The changing rooms are at the back of the Stray Ponds toilets, which are opposite the Cedar Court Hotel.
That area of the Stray is frequently used by footballers as well as for a weekly park run.
Councillor Patrick Milne, a Liberal Democrat who represents Stray ward on the town council, has submitted a project proposal, which will be debated on March 4.
Cllr Milne told the Stray Ferret the roof was damaged but otherwise the structure looked intact. But he said it would be impossible to tell without looking inside.
The locked entrance
He added it had been so long since anyone had entered that the lock had seized up and North Yorkshire Council, which manages the building, would have to send a locksmith to get in.
Cllr Milne said:
It is currently locked and boarded up, serving no purpose and creating an eyesore.
It seems there is something there that is potentially a resource for local people. If it isn’t, then it could be knocked down and returned to Stray land.
