There was singing and dancing in the rain in Ripon yesterday as people of all ages braved the showers to attend the Indie Fiesta on Kirkgate.

The event, backed by business support organisation Ripon BID, featured live music, face painting for children and al fresco dining provided by the independent cafes and restaurants that line the ancient street.

Organiser Richard Hughes, who owns and runs the Manchega tapas bar on Duck Hill, told the Stray Ferret:

In spite of the weather, many people, including local residents and visitors, came to join in the fiesta fun and it was great to see people singing and dancing in the rain and enjoying themselves.

With the arrival of the Big Sky Wheel on Market Square earlier this month and the collaborative efforts of independent traders, Ripon has raised its game this Easter, encouraging people who may not have visited previously to come and see what this fantastic city has to offer.
