Residents in the Harrogate district can now apply for their annual garden waste collections.
However, the cost of the service has risen again. A licence for the 2024 season, which provides collections between March and early December, costs £46.50.
This is a 7% increase on the £43.50 paid by Harrogate district residents paid last year.
The service has been standardised by North Yorkshire Council to ensure everyone receives the same service across the county. Garden waste is a discretionary service, which councils are not legally required to provide.
The licence covers one 240-litre wheelie bin to be emptied fortnightly. Any additional bins need their own licence.
Cllr Greg White, the council’s executive member for managing our environment, said:
“We carefully considered the best approach for the delivery of garden waste collections, and a key priority for the new council was to standardise the service across the county.
“Residents are encouraged to buy a licence in plenty of time before the start of the service in March. Although they can still pay for a licence at any time during the season, the service will not start until their licence arrives and is displayed on their bin.”
Residents who buy a licence should receive a licence pack within 14 days. For more information, click here.
