Developer submits plans for 70 homes in village near Boroughbridge
A developer has submitted plans to build 70 homes in a village near Boroughbridge.
Caddick Land Ltd, which is based in Wetherby, has requested permission from North Yorkshire Council to build on Leeming Lane in Kirby Hill.
According to the proposals, the developer would build a mixture of two, three and four-bedroom homes on the 3.8 hectare site.
In a planning statement, Caddick said the plan was an opportunity to provide “much needed new homes” in North Yorkshire.
It said:
The delivery of the site can create a high quality new neighbourhood within Kirby Hill.
The site is an opportunity to provide much-needed new homes in North Yorkshire, supporting the existing local facilities within the village and providing opportunity for new accessible green space for the benefit of existing and future residents of Kirby Hill.
However, the proposal comes at a time when campaigners have warned that villages near Boroughbridge are at risk of being overwhelmed by development.
Residents in Langthorpe, Kirby Hill and Milby have launched a Protect Our Village residents group to campaign against three sites which would see a combined 487 homes built.

Campaigners have argued that brownfield sites and other allocations have been overlooked, while developers are being "allowed to target green fields”.
They also accuse planners of ignoring existing policies, including the Harrogate Local Plan (2014–2035), the National Planning Policy Framework, and the direction of travel in the emerging North Yorkshire Council Plan.
Steve Cove, of the Protect Our Village residents group, told the Stray Ferret previously:
This is inappropriate, unsustainable, and deeply unfair on rural communities.
Enough is enough. North Yorkshire Council must reject these applications and protect our villages from becoming dormitory estates.
North Yorkshire Council will make a decision on the Kirby Hill proposal at a later date.
