The nights are drawing in, making it an ideal time to settle down on the sofa with a cup of something warm, and delve into the Stray Ferret’s lifestyle section.
Last week saw an unexpected theme emerging across our Arts & Culture and History sections – a focus on film.
Our interview with Kevin Langford, who has worked at Harrogate’s Odeon for three decades, offered a fascinating insight behind the scenes of the iconic art deco building, and of the changing face of the industry.
The late and much-missed Harrogate historian Malcolm Neesam produced a number of history articles for the Stray Ferret several years ago, and it seemed an apt time to republish his piece about the heyday of Harrogate cinemas, as a companion feature.
Our food writer Yemi recently took a trip to Sykes House Farm, to meet its new chef Greg Lewis, and find out about their latest venture, a concept kitchen named ‘Method’.
You won’t want to miss her weekly column this Saturday – in her words, she’s ‘getting cheeky’ and pitting the iconic Bettys’ Fat Rascal against other local versions, in a blind taste test challenge.
Other features to look out for this weekend are our review of Chartwell, Aldwark Manor’s fine-dining restaurant which was awarded 3 AA Rosettes on Monday – find out what our lifestyle writer Francesca made of the experience.
There’s also another installment of our biweekly local history spotlight column, and an article about Harrogate’s Man V FAT football league, following our attendance at one of the Monday sessions.
Last week’s Photo of the Week caused quite the stir on social media too; the striking image of a full moon over Menwith, captured by Len Downes, currently has over 800 reactions on Facebook, and 205 likes on Instagram.
If you’d like to submit your own entry for consideration, email your photograph to letters@thestrayferret.co.uk for a chance to be featured in the upcoming weeks.
Finally, subscribers to the Stray Ferret can enjoy a range of fantastic exclusive offers, discounts and giveaways from local businesses, which we regularly update.
This week we’re featuring our partnership with hairdressers Charlotte Wooley, which is offering a 20 percent discount for customers looking for a colour refresh – perfect for an autumnal makeover.
