St Aidan's CE High School in the snow.

As the district heads into its fifth day of snow and ice, many things are not yet back to normal.

The temperature dropped to at least minus 7C last night, and is not expected to rise above zero degrees for some time yet.

This morning, we reported developments as they occurred in a live blog, which is now closed. Here's what happened:

8.35am Weekend racing cancelled

Anyone hoping for a flutter at the William Hill Medieval Raceday at Wetherby Racecourse on Saturday will have to revise their plans – it's been cancelled following a course inspection.

Among alternative plans, the favourite must be watching Leeds Utd v Harrogate Town in the FA Cup 3rd round. It'll be screened live at 5.45pm on Saturday on BBC iPlayer.

8.20am Buses running as normal

Minimal disruption to bus services is reported.

Harrogate Bus Company has said that the 59 is suspended until further notice due to the closure of the A59.

8.10am Ripon Market still on

Ripon Market will be going ahead today. Stallholder Brian Murphy told the Stray Ferret that "it's looking like a full market".

As we reported yesterday, Market Square North, where the market is held, has been cleared of snow and ice.

7.20am School updates

St John Fisher Catholic High School will remain closed as the site is still deemed unsafe, and pupils will learn remotely from home.

St Aidan's C of E High School will be open to pupils in years 7 to 12, but because the St John Fisher site is still unsafe, those in year 13 will remain at home and learn remotely.

Harrogate College is also remaining closed, with students continuing to learn online.

After remaining closed yesterday, Rossett School will reopen today.

Harrogate High School will open at the later time of 10.30am this morning, with pupils expected on site from 10.20am. Children may attend breakfast club from 10am. There will be no assembly or morning break time, and there will be no extra-curricular clubs running over the next week.

Harrogate Grammar School is open as normal.

Oatlands Junior School reopens today from 10.30am, as does Oatlands Infants' School, thanks to the efforts of parents and staff who have cleared paths, and one dad who donated 10 bags of grit. But parents are asked not to drive on the minor streets near the school, as they are still very slippery, and some parents' cars got stuck yesterday.

New Park Primary Academy in Harrogate will reopen from 8.45am, with the gates open till 10am to allow for safe travel.

Primary schools that remain closed include Admiral Long CE Primary School at Burnt Yates, Aspin Park Academy in Knaresborough, Beckwithshaw Community Primary School, Dacre Braithwaite CE Primary School, The Forest School, Knaresborough, Kettlesing Felliscliffe Primary School, Ripley Endowed CE Primary School, and Saltergate School in Harrogate.

Forest Moor School near Darley will be closed for the rest of the week.
