‘Ride the route’ event to be held for Tour of Britain stage through Ripon
People will be given the chance to experience a stage of this year’s Tour of Britain men’s race that passes through Boroughbridge, Ripon and Pateley Bridge.
The Stray Ferret reported yesterday that the world’s best cyclists will race through the Dales on Saturday, September 5.
Lloyds Tour of Britain Ride the Route sportives give amateur cyclists the opportunity to ride sections of the event routes days before the world's best riders compete on them.
One covering the Dales route will depart from Thirsk Racecourse on Sunday, August 30.
Riders can choose from three routes of 56km, 100km or 184km. The longest, which costs £59, is the official race route. Entry to the short route is £39.

York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority paid British Cycling £200,000 to bring a stage of the race to the region in 2026 and 2027.
David Skaith, the Labour mayor who chairs the combined authority, said the race generated more than £30 million for host areas in 2024.
He added:
This is a fantastic opportunity to inspire people of all ages, support local businesses and create a lasting legacy for communities across the county.
He added the combined authority would provide grants to decorate towns and villages, organise community celebrations or support activities on the day.
