Saint Michael’s Hospice raised over £21,000 at a new running event that attracted more than 800 entrants yesterday (March 1).

The Harrogate hospice organised five and 10-kilometre races at the inaugural event, which began and finished at the hospice.

Both routes took runners along the rolling hills of Crimple Valley.

Knaresborough Striders’ Tom Calvert finished first of 566 runners in the 10K event, with a time of 38 minutes and nine seconds.

The fastest woman was Bingley Harriers’ Ruth Thackray in 46 minutes and 26 seconds.

Of the 238 entrants to the 5K race, Nidd Valley Road Runners’ Josh Bryer came in first place with a time of 19 minutes and 33 seconds.

More runners also took place in a Littlies Fun Run for under-16s.

Mums Angels’ Clare Atkinson was the fasted woman, who ran the course in 25 minutes and 29 seconds.

Saint Michael’s Hospice helps thousands of people each year with end-of-life care. It needs to raise around £7 million annually to sustain its services.

Muddy Boots 10K attracts hundreds

Ripon’s annual Muddy Boots 10k also attracted hundreds of runners yesterday.

The multi-terrain 10-kilometre event attracted 193 entrants, taking them along roads, footpaths, and farmland trails.

Organised by the St Wilfrid’s Association, the run started and finished at Ripon’s St Wilfrid’s Catholic Primary School.

Ripon Runners’ Harrison Swaine came first, with a time of 39 minutes and 22 seconds.

Isabelle Forsythe was the fastest woman. She ran the course in 44 minutes and 46 seconds.
