Every Monday, the Stray Ferret publishes a round-up of sports action in the Harrogate district. We will focus on the first team results of local amateur and semi-professional sports clubs.
Here's what happened during the week of December 8 to 14.
Harrogate Railway Ladies progressed to the next round of the League Cup on Sunday as they beat local rivals Harrogate Town under-23s 3-1. Caitlyn Atkin (x2) and Krista Shuttleworth got on the scoresheet for Railway, while Izzy Rundle scored for Town.
The Rail will go into the hat with Thackley, Leeds Modernians Development, Halifax Friendly, Guiseley Lionesses, Silsden, Morely Town and local rivals Knaresborough Town.
Harrogate Railway continued their stellar league form away at Maltby Main on Saturday. Josh Lockwood, Harris Eggleston, Dom Creamer and Alex Ingham all scored in a convincing 4-0 win.
The Rail are now unbeaten in 12 games in the NCEL Division One, and are closing in on league leaders Dearne and District. Should Railway win their four games in hand, they would go five points clear at the top of the league.
Harrogate put in a dominant display as they beat Penrith 88-7 at home on Saturday. Penrith beat Harrogate in the reverse fixture on gameweek two in the Regional 1 North East League. When the Stray Ferret spoke to Harrogate director of rugby Jake Brady recently, he said he was confident that his side would beat them this time around.
And they certainly made good on that promise. Harrogate remain in second place, six points behind league leaders Heath, having both picked up the full five league points this week.
Harrogate Pythons moved up to fourth place in the Counties 1 Yorkshire League on Saturday with a 36-17 win over Hullensians.
The Pythons had won one and lost three of their previous four encounters with the Kingston-Upon-Hull side. Earning an additional league point for scoring four tries, the Pythons leapfrogged Yarnbury into fourth place. They are now one point behind third-placed Keighley.
