Mid-January is the perfect time to don the walking boots.
Walking is not only good for fitness but also benefits overall well-being. And we are spoilt for choice when it comes to landscapes which to walk in our local area.
There are plenty of walks on the doorstep such as Crimple Valley or Nidderdale Greenway. You can also go further afield in the Yorkshire Dales or visit a local garden such as Harlow Carr, which is celebrating its 25th year and has recently welcomed its 500,000th visitor.
And be sure to check out these four Yorkshire reservoir walks, and these seven waterfall walks for inspiration aplenty.

He will be joined by Lithuanian pianist Kasparas Mikužis, whose confident musicianship has taken him to major venues including the Concertgebouw, and who was named a 2025 YCAT artist and Classic FM Rising Star.
This promising partnership offers a vibrant start to the series, with audiences also invited to a free post-concert talk with the artists.

White Rose Squares is running a beginners’ American Square Dancing class at Pannal Village Hall starting Sunday January 18.
Square dancing involves groups of eight people learning simple moves. Each dance combines these moves differently, so no two dances are the same. Experienced callers guide participants through the steps, and club members are on hand to help anyone who needs support.
You don’t need a partner, just comfortable clothing and a willingness to move. It’s a social, active way to try something new and keep both mind and body engaged.
The weekly sessions run on Sunday evenings from 7.30pm to 10pm from January 18, with the first week free, then £4.50 per session after. Pannal Village Hall, Station Road, Pannal, Harrogate, HG3 1JJ.
