Several households in the Otley Road area of Harrogate had to be supplied with bottled water this evening after a main pipe ruptured.

Water could be seen gushing from grates on both sides of the road where it meets Pannal Ash Road and Manor Drive, as well as from a drain outside So! Bar & Eats.

The torrent flowed down the main road and turned down Cold Bath Road.

A spokesperson for Yorkshire Water told the Stray Ferret:

Our teams are working to fix a burst water main on Otley Road in Harrogate. We're rerouting water around our network so that the majority of customers will have their water supply return shortly.

However, we'll need to stop the flow of the burst pipe so that we can dig down and fix it, which might mean some customers nearby remain without water supply for a short while.

We have a team on their way with bottled water for any customers on our Priority Services Register and we're working to get everything back to normal as soon as possible.

The incident comes just two days after a burst water main cut supplies from part of Harrogate's Duchy estate.
