Harrogate Town Council has shared a roadworks update from North Yorkshire Council.

It sets out all the planned projects around Harrogate over the next few weeks, and includes schemes from Northern Powergrid, Yorkshire Water, Northern Gas Networks and North Yorkshire Council.

Northern Powergrid, 33KV scheme

• Otley Road, Harrogate – Jul 14 - Aug 15 – Road closure.

• Otley Road, Harrogate – Aug 11 - Aug 17 – Multiway signals

These schemes have been cancelled and will be re-programmed for the same time as proposed remedial works at the Prince of Wales roundabout. The exact date is still to be confirmed, but they are likely to start in early 2026.

• York Place – Aug 11-17 – This too has been cancelled and will also be re-programmed for the same time as proposed remedial works at the Prince of Wales roundabout. Again, the date is to be confirmed. However, Northern Powergrid does have a section on the bridge near Stray Rein to complete and hopes to finish this between Oct 23 and Nov 19 under a lane closure.

• Knaresborough Road – revised dates Jul 14 - Sep 8 (previously Aug 18 - Sep 9) – Multiway signals. The work on the High Street has been brought forward, so Northern Powergrid has agreed to continue with rolling temporary lights at this location to ensure completion on this route before the start of the new school term this week. Work is ongoing now, and will continue by night when the roundabout section is carried out.

• Leeds Road – Aug 11 until Sep 5 – Temporary lights. Northern Powergrid recently completed a section of works on at this location, but cleared the site due to the Great Yorkshire Show, so still has a small section to complete between Trinity Road and St George’s roundabout.

There are a number of upcoming schemes. These will be at the following locations:

• Scheme 1: Harrogate District Hospital scheme – Wayside Avenue, Hookstone Drive, Wayside Crescent, St Leonard's Road.

• Scheme 2: Swan Road and slightly on the A61 and to the substation on Trafalgar Road

• Scheme 3: Road to the rear of Beechwood Crescent, along Cold Bath Road to Valley Drive

• Scheme 4: A joint bay on Portland Crescent and a joint bay on King's Road

• Scheme 5: Crescent Road, King's Road, Parliament Street, Ripon Road

Discussions are ongoing and dates are still to be agreed.

Yorkshire Water

Yorkshire Water is continuing an improvement programme in Harrogate town centre. The company is in discussions with the council’s highways department regarding appropriate programming in the new year, so start dates are still to be determined.

Harrogate Spring Water

• Penny Pot Lane, Cornwall Road – Nov 24 - Jan 9 – Temporary lights.

• Harlow Moor Road – Jan 12-30 – Temporary lights. These dates are pending as further discussion with North Yorkshire Council officers is needed.

Northern Gas Networks

• Hookstone Drive – the mains replacement works still continue under rolling traffic lights. Northern Gas Networks is looking to complete by Sep 12, but conversations are taking place with a view to bringing that date forward to before the start of the new school term. Multiway lights at the junction of Wetherby Road will be needed.
