A hotel located near Harrogate Convention Centre is to be converted into an aparthotel following its acquisition by a specialist operator.
The 17-room Ascot House Hotel on King’s Road has been bought by Chester-based St David Aparthotels, which has plans to turn it into 19 studio apartments.
The hotel, which was built as a private residence in 1892, was formerly a family-run business, and was put up for sale following the owner’s retirement. The hotel’s former manager is joining St David and will oversee the property’s operation.
News of the Ascot House Hotel acquisition was reported by the trade publication Serviced Apartment News.
Tony Davies, managing director of St David Aparthotels, told the website:
We take character buildings and totally redevelop them with the aim of breathing new life into them as aparthotels. Everyone benefits, from our guests and the town’s residents through to our investors.
An apartment hotel, or aparthotel, is a type of serviced accommodation that combines the self-catering facilities of a private apartment with the services and amenities of a traditional hotel.
St David Aparthotels was founded by property developer Tony Davies, who first established his business in 1990 in Hong Kong, offering UK properties to investors based there.

The company already has three aparthotels in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, and has bought another two in the town. It has also bought Gillygate House, a four-floor Georgian property in York dating from 1769, and has plans to acquire more properties in Harrogate and York.
