Conservatives reveal candidates for Harrogate Town Council election
The Conservative party has revealed its candidates for the upcoming Harrogate Town Council election.
Voters will head to the polls on May 1 this year to elect representatives to the first ever town council in Harrogate.
The Conservatives have opted to field a candidate in each of the 19 divisions on the authority.
They include:
- Sharon Bentley, Bilton Grange
- Rebecca Reeve-Burnett, Bilton Woodfield
- Jonathan Shrago, Central
- Louis Barratt, Coppice Valley
- Anthony Murphy, Duchy
- Innes Winter, Fairfax
- Douglas West, Harlow
- Kim Murphy, High Harrogate
- Tim Hunter, Hookstone
- Tom Martin, Kingsley
- Sue Lumby, New Park
- Elizabeth Jackson, Oatlands
- Neil Bentley, Old Bilton
- John Mann, Pannal
- Michael Harrison, Saltergate
- Steven Jackson, St Georges
- Luke Warburton, Starbeck
- Edward Lyell, Stray
- John Ennis, Valley Gardens
Harrogate and Knaresborough Conservatives said in a statement that the new council should deliver “services that are not already provided by other bodies” and seek to improve public services and have a strong local voice.
Michael Harrison, a Conservative councillor who also sits on North Yorkshire Council, said:
Our manifesto is a clear plan for how the town council could enhance Harrogate. It must work to make our town even better, and that's the commitment we're standing for election on.
Our approach will be partnership working, exploring devolution and promoting our local economy. In six themes, we've set out what we would deliver if elected on 1 May.
We're sharing our plan with residents over the next few weeks so they can make an informed decision at the ballot box.
The new parish of Harrogate will come into effect on April 1, 2025, with the first elections taking place a month later. It will be made up of 19 councillors.
Labour, the Liberal Democrats, Green Party and Reform UK are expected to announce their candidates in the coming weeks.
Nominations for councillors on Harrogate Town Council are set to open on April 2.
From there, those nominated will be revealed at 4pm the following day.
