Plans to refurbish the Asda supermarket in Harrogate have triggered questions about the future of its in-store clothes section.
Asda announced on August 1 it would spend £7.2 million modernising stores in Harrogate, Kingswood, York, Pudsey, and Keighley by the end of 2025.
The company said each store will get a full shop floor refurbishment, including a simpler and more intuitive layout, as well as new feature lighting and neon signage.
But a source close to the Harrogate store told the Stray Ferret said they understood the George in-house clothes section did not feature in the new-look plans for the town.
The Stray Ferret asked Asda if this were true. A spokesperson confirmed that renovations would occur at the Harrogate site but refused to comment on the future of the clothes section.
Work to upgrade stores is due to begin in September and last around seven weeks. All stores will remain open during the work.
We will provide updates when they become available.
