Harrogate Town have announced their fourth signing of the summer.
Twenty-eight-year-old Mason Bennett has agreed a two-year contract with the club.
The forward arrives from League One side Burton Albion, who he spent the last two seasons with. He made 75 appearances for the Brewers.
He will wear the number 10 shirt for Simon Weaver’s side.
Bennett holds a piece of history at his boyhood club, Derby County: at 15-years-old, he became the club’s youngest ever player.
The new number 10 also holds the record as the youngest ever goalscorer for the Rams, who he made 89 appearances for.
Bennett joins Town with 168 Championship appearances to his name, having joined Millwall after exiting Pride Park. He played over 100 games for The Lions.
The new signing said:
I’ve had positive talks with the manager and liked his ambition and vision for the coming seasons, so it was a no brainer for me.
He wants to get the ball forward and wants strikers who buy into the work ethic and pressing, and that suits my game.
My challenge is the same as it’s always been, do the best I can and play as much football as I can, when you get the team spirit and a group all pulling in the right direction you can create special memories.
Despite getting regular game time at all of his clubs, the Derbyshire-born footballer has only managed a total of 24 goals in his nine-year career so far.
However, head of player recruitment Lloyd Kerry believes he has a lot to offer:
Mason has a lot of EFL pedigree at a higher level, so we’re really excited he’s on board.
We’ve got a good blend of attacking options now and I think we’ll see his quality come out when he plays, he can bring players into play and be really physical up there.
We’ve had a number of meetings with him and think he’ll fit in really well here, he looks a typical Harrogate Town player who grafts for the badge.
The transfer is subject to FA and EFL approval.
