Liverpool Football Club legends were in Harrogate at the weekend.
John Barnes and Peter Beardsley visited Oakdale Golf Club on Saturday (June 7) to celebrate 40 years of the Harrogate and District Liverpool Supporters Club.
Over 100 people were in attendance to celebrate the anniversary as well as Liverpool's 20th league title.
Co-founded by Diana Houlgate, Janet Gregory, Darren Love, Rich Irwin, Wayne Atkinson and David Houlgate, the supporters’ group has been running coaches from Knaresborough to Anfield since 1985.
Barnes and Beardsley were major contributors to Liverpool’s success in the late 1980s.
Playing in a legendary team with the likes of Ian Rush, Alan Hansen and player-manager Kenny Dalglish, Barnes and Beardsley significantly contributed to two of Liverpool’s 20 league titles. The pair also won an FA Cup and three Charity Shields together.
Also present at the event was stadium announcer George Sephton, known as The Voice of Anfield.
Responsible for stadium announcements and DJing before kick-off since 1971, he is England’s second longest-serving stadium announcer with 54 years of service.
The 79-year-old retired at the end of this season.
The membership list for the Harrogate and District Liverpool Supporters Club is currently closed, with a waiting list in place.
