Driver receiving medical treatment after crash near Menwith Hill

The collision happened on the A59 at the junction with the B6451 near Menwith Hill.

A driver was taken to hospital following a collision near Menwith Hill this morning (August 13).

North Yorkshire Police this afternoon said the crash, which happened just before 9.30am, occurred on the A59 at the junction with the B6451 near Menwith Hill, just outside of Harrogate.

The force added two vehicles – a white Mercedes Vito van and a Ford KA – were involved.

The driver of the Ford was taken to hospital with minor injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment. The passenger of the Mercedes van was checked at the scene, police said.

Today’s statement added:

We’re appealing for any witnesses to the collision or anyone with dashcam footage of the vehicles prior to impact or the collision itself, to contact us.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service's incident log said firefighters from Harrogate and Summerbridge were called to a "dangerous crossroads" on the A59 at 9.20am today.  

It followed reports of a collision involving a car and a van. 

The fire log adds the driver of the van, who was uninjured, was out of the vehicle when crews arrived at the scene. The driver of the car was trapped in the vehicle. 

It also says:

Crews removed the side door using small tools and sharps protection to extricate the casualty and transfer them to hospital via road ambulance.
