A drunk driver who ran a red light in Knaresborough has been banned from driving.

Robert Walker, 39, was sentenced at York Magistrates Court on Tuesday (February 24) after being convicted of four offences.

On November 6 last year, Walker denied one count of drink-driving, one count of failing to stop when required by a constable and one count of failing to comply with a red or green arrow or a lane closure signal when driving.

He was found guilty last Thursday (February 19), but he failed to attend Harrogate Magistrates Court as required by court bail conditions.

Walker was later charged for failing to attend court and admitted the offence at sentencing.

According to court documents, Walker failed to comply with a red light at Grimbald Crag Way in Knaresborough on October 21 last year.

That same day, he also ignored a police constable in uniform when the officer signalled for Walker to stop his car.

Walker, of Fishwick View in Preston, was also drunk at the time. He recorded 71 micrograms of alcohol is 100 millilitres of breath – more than twice the legal limit of 35 micrograms – when he drove along the A658 John Metcalf Way near Harrogate.

Walker was banned from driving for 17 months, reduced by 17 weeks if he completes a drink-driving awareness course.

He was ordered to pay a £720 fine, £620 in prosecution costs and a £288 surcharge.
