How much should North Yorkshire Council’s senior staff be paid? That’s the debate our readers have been having in our comments section this week.
It follows an article where we revealed that the number of council workers being paid more than £100,000 is set to increase year-on-year. Top earners at the authority will increase from 26 to 32 on April 1.
The council said it has to recruit the “very best candidates to do their jobs” and the salaries reflect the responsibilities and experience of staff.
However, that hasn’t stopped our readers from giving their two penn’orth on the topic.
The saga which is Harrogate Spring Water and its plan for rotary wood rumbles on.
This week Pinewoods Conservation Group called for the plan to be rejected amid fresh concerns.
The proposal has received 1,013 objections and just 11 expressions of support and three consultee reports from council officers all raised concerns — though none formally objected.
Pinewoods has argued that the plan is “still not good enough” and called for it to be rejected in light of the reports.
However, Harrogate Spring Water said it was “perfectly normal as part of the standard process for any planning application for points to be raised by statutory consultees”.
It added that it was in the “process of providing additional information and making some amendments to our application”.
Finally, did you spot Kiefer Sutherland in Knaresborough?
The Canadian actor, who is know for his role in the hit TV series 24, was in town shooting a new Christmas film on Waterside.
We received several pictures and video clips from readers pointing out that Mr Sutherland had graced our district. Sadly, this reporter was not one of the lucky ones to get close to the film star.
John Plummer is away.
