Just when you thought we’d seen enough rain to put an end to the hosepipe ban, an email from Yorkshire Water drops into your inbox saying otherwise.
It has been three weeks since the company announced the restrictions, which are designed to save water during protracted dry spells.
But, despite the recent rainfall, Yorkshire Water says it is not enough to save the ever depleting reservoir levels. The company did say in a statement, however, that it has managed to reduce water usage and saved 70-80 million litres per day in warm weather.
Surely there is an end in sight for the ban on hosepipes then? No, according to David Kaye, director of water at Yorkshire Water, the company will lift restrictions “as soon as we can”. Make of that what you will.
Meanwhile, the football season gets back underway this weekend as Harrogate Town make the lengthy trip down to Bristol.
This week, our reporter Robert Caulfield caught up with Town manager Simon Weaver to pick his brains about the new season.
Just two weeks ago, Weaver was optimistic of the club’s chances and said fans should dare to dream that they could make a push for promotion.
However, on Wednesday, he was more cautious and said the aim is to reach a points total capable of keeping them in the league as quickly as possible.
Regardless, while Weaver may be keeping a level head ahead of the season, fans can indeed be allowed to dream. Otherwise, what is the point of football if you can’t be optimistic?
John Plummer is away.
