The secretary of state for education has praised the results of “disadvantaged” pupils at a Harrogate primary school.
In a letter to New Park Primary Academy, part of Northern Star Academies Trust, Bridget Phillipson said the pupils' SAT (standard assessment tests) results placed the school “among the very best nationally”.
Ms Phillipson wrote to the school following the results of last year’s year six SAT exams, which were taken in May, but the pupils have since moved on to secondary school.
Her letter said:
Congratulations to you and your team on the excellent outcomes the disadvantaged pupils at New Park Primary Academy achieved at the end of the 2024/25 academic year. Your school’s performance places it among the very best nationally, and this is a significant achievement.
This success reflects the dedication of your staff and the hard work of your pupils. It shows what can be achieved when ambition and commitment come together. Thank you for everything you do to give children the best possible opportunities to succeed. Please pass on my thanks and congratulations to your staff and pupils.

New Park Primary Academy said the results reflect the academy’s “unwavering commitment to high expectations, inclusive practise and ensuring pupils – regardless of background – are supported to achieve their full potential”.
The school’s headteacher, Sasha Bune, added:
We are incredibly proud of our pupils and our staff. This recognition is a testament to the hard work, dedication and care shown across the school every day. We are committed to ensuring that every pupil gets the education they need and deserve.
Our role as educators is to unlock the potential of all our students and to build their confidence so they can achieve what they set out to do and it is wonderful to see that work recognised at a national level.
