Independent Bilton greengrocers Roots & Fruits has been sold.
The business, which Julia Corbett and James Sore took over in 2018, has become a mainstay of the parade of shops on King Edward's Drive.
But it announced on social media today it had sold the shop to Vikas Patel and Miraz Mehta, the owners of Boroughbridge grocers Fink:
We feel we are lucky to have found a wonderful family to take the shop to the next level and its through its next chapter.
More importantly we feel that Miras and Vikas are the perfect people with the same ethos and ethics. They have the same passion to promote local suppliers and offer the best local and UK fresh produce they possibly can whilst continuing to serve the local community wherever they can.
Mr Patel and Ms Mehta bought Fink from co-owners Hugh Fink and Sharon Longcroft in 2013.
They previously ran a business in the London borough of Chelsea.
Roots & Fruits’ social post said the new owners “have no plans to change anything other than introduce new products that we know you will love”.
Reflecting on their venture, they said:
What a journey! We are proud of what we have achieved over the past eight years and where we have taken Roots & Fruits.
It’s not been easy at times especially steering the shop through the pandemic but with the commitment of a strong team and members of the local community coming out to lend a hand we did it! To those people we are eternally grateful.”
We’re going to miss our chats and catchups be it in the shop or on the doorstep. That said we’ll still be around for a chinwag on the street - it’s just we’ll be customers too. We can’t thank you enough for supporting us and you will forever be in our hearts.
