A building once home to one of Harrogate’s longest-running businesses is set for a new lease of life.
Lancaster’s Bakery on Cold Bath Road closed in January after 119 years of operating.
The reaction to the closure was huge but customers old and new can now look forward to its successor, Cold Bath Bakehouse.
Described as a modern European bakery, Cold Bath Bakehouse will serve freshly baked goods and coffee in the morning, and 'New York-shire-style pizzas' at lunchtime and in the evening.
Jason Daniel, an artisan baker, Joanna McMurdo, co-author of Eat, Walk Harrogate, and Papitos wine bar owner, Olsi Papa, are the brains behind the new venture.
In an announcement today, they said they will take on the site with the “blessing of the Lancaster’s family”.
Ms McMurdo said:
It’s an honour to be opening Cold Bath Bakehouse on the site of iconic bakery Lancaster’s who [sic] generously served the hungry Cold Bath Road community for so many years. To have the Lancaster's family's blessing means so much, and we’re delighted to be continuing their legacy by offering a selection of Lancaster’s favourites alongside our daily menu.

Tony Fulford, who owned the former Chez La Vie on Harrogate's Skipton Road, has been appointed as a restaurant consultant on the project.
An official opening date has not yet been confirmed, but Cold Bath Bakehouse is set to open daily this summer.
